Why is Magento eCommerce Software so good?

Well, not so long ago there were a host of enterprise ecommerce systems that wouldn’t get out of bed unless they could charge a customer upwards of £100,000 in licence fees alone. Then came along Magento eCommerce and completely changed the ecommerce market place. Magento was built with functionality better than the existing providers, yet came with an open source price tag…a no brainer.

At first, many established corporate organisations were sceptical about Magento and would ask, how can something so good be so cheap when all the other systems are charging so much more? As time has gone, various corporates took the plunge and adopted Magento to the point where the list of stellar organisations now using Magento speaks for itself.

Indeed, companies such as; Harvey Nichols, Fred Perry, Nokia, Breville, Inc., Lush, Longine, The North Face, NAF NAF, Time Out, Adidas, KSwiss, Salomon, Christian Louboutan, Pentel, Ford, Paul Smith, Muji, Myla, Movado, Jack Wolfskin, Dockers, Nespresso, I’Ogan, Samsung, Stussy, Interflora, and Villeroy and Boch, to name but a few.

What flavours of Magento are there?

There are three types of Magento ecommerce platform, these being the Magento Community Edition, Magento Professional and Magento Enterprise.

The Magento Community Edition is available as a free download under the open source OSL 3.0 license and is recommended for small and medium sized organisations that are looking for an entry into online retailing. The Magento Professional edition provides more advanced revenue generating features not found in the open source Magento Community platform and is PA-DSS compliant. The professional edition costs £1845 for an annual licence.

The Magento Enterprise edition is PA-DSS compliant eCommerce platform with best-in-class merchandising and marketing tools for multi-national corporate organisations. The enterprise edition costs £8090 a year.

What Magento version is right for you?

This depends on a number of factors such as budget, ecommerce experience, infrastructure, retail objectives and country focus. If you are considering Magento, we at Banksthomas provide a free qualification work shop with the aim of being able to direct you to selecting the right solution.
